Pokhara

Pokhara is a metropolitan city in Nepal, which serves as the capital of Gandaki Pradesh. It is the country’s second largest city in terms of population and the largest in terms of area. The city also serves as the headquarters of Kaski District. Pokhara is located 200 kilometers (120 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu. The altitude varies from 827 meters (2,713 feet) in the southern part to 1,740 meters (5,710 feet) in the north. The Annapurna Range, with three out of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — is within 15–35 mi (24–56 km) of the valley.

Pokhara is blessed with stunning panoramic views of the Annapurna range Himalayas. Although not highest in the range, Machhapuchre dominates because of its proximity on the valley and can be seen from anywhere in Pokhara. Pokhara City offers an opportunity to enchanting Phewa Lake and along its eastern shore has grown the lakeside town where tourists gather. It is the largest and most beautiful three lakes attracting a large number of visitors who can enjoy boating on its placid water. Barahi Temple is most important monument in Pokhara.

An amazing aspect of Pokhara is the Vanishing River. A natural wonder, the Seti Gandaki goes underground, vanishing from sight in many places along its route through the city.
