Overview

Halesi Mahadev Cave lies in a Khotang district of Nepal. It is around 222 kilometers away from Kathmandu following the way of Dhulikhel, Nepalthok, Khurkot all the way to Ghurmi, Okhaldhunga, Jayaram and Halesi. As we travel through the narrow road so it takes around 8 – 9 hours to reach Halesi Mahadev. Halesi Mahadev is two feet tall Shiva Linga that enshrines inside the Cave. There are two pillars close to each other on the north of the Shiva Linga making a narrow pass. It is believed that sinners cannot pass through this passage, but confessions of the wrongs committed would enable access through. Thousands of devotees come to offer worship the symbol of Lord Shiva with the belief that Halesi Mahadev blesses the poor with prosperity and the ignorant with knowledge and wisdom.

Halesi is one of the ancient and holiest places of Nepal. It is equally popular among Hindu, Buddhist and Kirati.  The situation in the eastern part of Nepal, Mahadev Mahadev is religious as well as touristic place. The natural and huge cave is the main attraction of Halesi Mahadev. The cave is associated with Guru Rinpoche in Buddhism and Lord Shiva to Hinduism. There are several occasion big ceremony goes in the temple. Behind the temple, there is a huge natural cave which is capable of thousands of monks for meditation. Near the temple, Matrika Monastery lies, which is famous among the Buddhist people.

There are three mysterious caves. It is believed to be three eyes of Lord Shiva. A first cave called Haleswar Mahadev is an image of the image of Shiva. Second caved called Basaha cave is an image of Nandi. A third cave called Bhairava cave is an image of Bhairav. The first cave is the main part of the temple with a natural image of Lord Shiva. This cave is about 300 feet down from the surface and there are well managed 102 stone steps.

Wake up early in the morning and get ready to drive to Halesi Mahadev. It is around 222 kilometers from Kathmandu. It will take around 7 hours to reach. We will drive from Kathmandu via Dhulikhel, Nepalthok, Khurkot, Ghurmi, Jayaram ghat to Halesi. Upon reaching Halesi check in at hotel. Dinner and Overnight.

Wake up early in the morning.Visit Haleshi Mahadev Temple for worship which will be near the hotel. After Haleshi Mahadev darshan breakfast in hotel. Then follow the same way all the way back to Kathmandu. We will arrive Kathmandu in the early evening.
